National Portrait Gallery
A programme of digital transformation
“Oliver has led several major projects for me and they were each undertaken with determination, clarity of purpose and great flair. Oliver ensures that things are done ‘on time and on budget’ but also thinks about the wider picture both within and beyond the organisation. He is intellectually rigorous while also getting the very best out of those around him.”
We worked closely with the senior management team of the National Portrait Gallery to put its first formal Digital Strategy in place as part of a set of major ambitions for gallery-wide redevelopment. Our journey to setting out the Strategy included an extensive process of consultation with internal and external stakeholders, benchmarking against other organisations, and audience research.
Support from the Board of Trustees was so strong that digital transformation was made a priority for investment. In response to this we continued to work on implementation of the Strategy to make its objectives a reality. This included putting the right governance in place, supporting ongoing change management, building capacity, setting KPIs and gathering data insight.
A roadmap was also put in place for incremental redevelopment of the website and to establish a new set of online learning resources developed in partnership with Unthinkable.
Our Digital Strategy has been used as an exemplar for others and a public digest version can be made available on request.
“Oliver has brought an experienced and thoughtful approach to developing a Digital Strategy with a focus on audience experience and content creation.
His clarity and dynamic manner has enabled the organisation to contribute to the process easily and effectively and puts us in a position to take forward his recommendations.”
